Canadian Production Company Takes on Controversial American Bugliosi Documentary
Windsor – Americans pride themselves on their freedom of expression but a Canadian production company has discovered first-hand that the American media censors far more than the average person is aware.
Canadian production company, NAFTC Studios has acquired the rights to distribute the controversial documentary The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder based on Vincent Bugliosi’s best-selling novel by the same name. The partnership came about following a meeting between Mr.Bugliosi and Windsor native Jim Shaban after Shaban became aware of the intense media black-out in the US of the book and now the film. Mainstream US media outlets that have previously supported Bugliosi have actively blocked the promotion of this latest effort.
“Americans pride themselves on their freedom of speech without censorship or limitation but unfortunately these rights were not extended to this important film,” says Shaban. I realized this project would never get the attention it deserves if it remained in the US,” he explains. “Canadians come from a region where our head of state, the Queen, can do no wrong. I wondered, Would it be possible? Could the President of the most powerful nation in the world be prosecuted? I realized that at the very least, Canadians and the International community at large would be interested in exploring this topic and giving it the respect it deserves. Vincent agreed and we decided to move the film and its promotion activities to Canada.”
Acquiring the rights to such a significant film was no small feat for this small and relatively unknown production company. Bugliosi’s commitment to ensuring the message is heard despite the obstacles set forth by the American media comes down to one monumental truth that he believes the world must know. “The war with Iraq,” Bugliosi insists, “was based on a lie.”

About Vincent Bugliosi
Vincent Bugliosi has always been a hero of justice and of the true-crime genre, having prosecuted one of the most famous murder cases in history (Charles Manson) and written the definitive book on the O.J. Simpson case (Outrage!) During his career in the L.A. County District Attorney’s office, he successfully prosecuted 105 out of 106 felony jury trials, including 21 murder convictions without a single loss. His most famous trial, the Charles Manson case, became the basis of his classic, “Helter Skelter,” the biggest selling true crime book in publishing history. Two of Bugliosi’s other books—“And the Sea Will Tell” and “Outrage”—also reached #1 on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list. No other American true-crime writer has ever had more than one book that achieved this ranking. His latest book, “Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy,” has been heralded as “epic” and “a book for the ages.” Tom Hanks’ Playtone Productions is producing an 8 hour HBO mini-series on the book.
